A spectacular, ornate, antique steamer trunk, it’s basically wooden chest covered in embossed tin, likely from the late 1800's Formerly a vintage travel trunk or vintage travel chest, this antique chest is not only beautiful, but very serviceable as an antique storage chest, or storage trunk. It’s a true treasure chest!
These old trunk chests are also an excellent way to store some of your workout equipment, dumbbells, yoga mats, dog food storage, record album storage etc. They’re more than just blanket storage!
The wood slats, on this steamer trunk have been stained in walnut, and topped with polyurethane. The embossed tin portion of the trunk has been finished in blackened black cherry, and it’s a color changing iridescent , and the high points of the embossed tin have been buffed bright. on the top and front. The hardware has been buffed bright. Remainder of the body has been done in an aged black finish. This one does have a couple of tin repairs, on the flat tin areas, not the embossed tin areas. the center hasp also doesn’t stay in the up position, as it’s in a locked position. the right magnet could change that, or a key to unlock. on of the side latches is also loose, but still operational. This trunk also has 2 hinges replaced.
This embossed tin pattern, isn’t super common. New, custom black leather studded handles, no key.
Interior of this vintage trunk is stripped, sanded, torched and coated in polyurethane.
