This authentic late-1800s Saratoga antique steamer trunk features a classic dome top, also known as a humpback or arched-lid trunk, with beautifully detailed embossed tin and ornate original hardware. Professionally refinished by Angelina Nikon in rich deep matte browns, the raised embossed tin details have been selectively buffed to highlight the intricate Victorian pattern, while walnut-stained oak slats finished with a protective low-sheen polyurethane add warmth and contrast. New custom black tooled leather handles complete the exterior. Inside, this Victorian travel trunk has been completely stripped and sanded to reveal clean natural wood, creating a functional antique storage chest for blankets, linens, keepsakes, family heirlooms and treasured collections. At just 30½ inches wide, this Saratoga trunk offers substantial storage and authentic 19th-century character without the oversized footprint of many antique steamer trunks.
ANTIQUE CONDITION:
This authentic 1800s trunk is in very good condition for its age while retaining the imperfections expected of a piece that has survived for well over a century. There is a slight crack in the upper rear slat on the trunk's left side. At some point in its history, the lock appears to have been pried open, and the loop portions of the latches do not align perfectly with their receivers. Previous holes in the ends of the trunk, likely once used for rope handles, have been filled and refinished. They are largely concealed on the exterior but remain visible from inside the trunk above the original tray supports. Please review all photographs closely, and additional detail photographs are available upon request.
