This distinctive antique steamer trunk combines an unusual monitor top design, waterfall front, and textured crocodile-pattern tin exterior in a beautifully refinished piece of functional Victorian-era furniture. Professionally refinished by Angelina Nikon, this antique trunk features rich character-filled wood, ornate hardware, custom leather handles, and a clean interior that has been completely stripped and sanded to reveal the natural wood beneath. Its flat, usable top makes this vintage travel trunk particularly well suited as an antique trunk coffee table, while the spacious interior provides practical storage for blankets, linens, keepsakes, record albums, family heirlooms, and more. A beautiful antique steamer trunk or antique chest. Also known as a monitor trunk, from the late 1800’s. This old trunk was once a travel trunk but now it's ready to be your storage chest, treasure chest or treasure trunk. These antique trunks can make a really cool coffee table trunk, or end table trunk, nestled between a pair of bucket chairs! This particular antique steamer trunk, is a nice, more durable alternative, to a leather trunk, and having a similar look, it's basically a wooden trunk, covered in tin.
This steamer trunk is newly refinished the wood slats are refinished, in walnut, then top coated with polyurethane. Original metal hardware has been painted black and partially buffed bright. The textured tin is done in browns and blacks and buffed bright. The remainder of the body, on this Vintage steamer trunk, is done in an aged black with bits, here and there buffed bright.
This vintage trunk has new, custom brown leather handles, there are a couple of extra holes, on the front where the old lock would’ve been (see picture). At some point, someone also added a generic hasp, in place of the original hasp. it’s been left in its rusty state and clear coated.
This antique travel chest has no key, but could accommodate a padlock.
There are a few flat brackets that have pieces missing, at trunk’s front right bottom and at Trunks rear left look closely at pictures . There is also a crack in one of the top slats, at trunk’s right.
Interior, of this vintage trunk chest, is stripped and sanded, and ready for your finishing touches, though it is useable just the way it is. These antique steamer trunks are a great keepsake gift, add decoupage, of photo copies of family photos, old love letters, sheet music, family recipes, children’s art, etc. it’s a blank canvas! If you’re not familiar, with the process, I’d be happy to guide you.
The interior, of this old trunk, old chest can also be stained, painted, upholstered, or decoupaged to your specifications, by me, for an added charge. Though it is useable, just the way it is.
