This authentic antique monitor top steamer trunk dates to the late 1800s and features the distinctive waterfall front design collectors prize. This antique chest is covered in tin and it’s a newly refinished trunk, or refurbished trunk. The oak slats on this antique chest trunk have been refinished in walnut stain. The smooth tin body has been was previously refinished and I’ve altered the finish a bit. My inspiration was an old rat rod. The colors in this look like Red Oxide, under black paint. Certain areas have been buffed bright.

The original hardware is done in black and buffed bright. New leather lift loop.

This flat top trunk has new, custom, black faux leather handles. This old trunk does have flaws, look closely at the pictures, there are various dents, dings and textures. All latches line up, but the loops don’t come up over very easy.

The interior of this vintage trunk chest has been stripped and sanded, and awaits your finishing touches, though it is useable just the way it is. You could decoupage photo copies of old family photos, recipes, children’s art, old love letters, greeting cards etc. These antique trunks also make a spectacular wedding present, using photo copies of the bride and groom as children.

The original interior tray, (also stripped and sanded), has a piece missing in the bottom. The compartment pieces, from the lid, shown in last picture, are all there, but broke apart. they’ll come with the trunk. If you’d like me to glue some fiberboard, on the backside, that can be done too, for an added charge. It would just be the actual door, that has come apart. the top and bottom pieces get attached to the lid and don’t move. I didn’t attach them, in case someone would rather have the height of the lid, rather than the compartment.

The back side has a small spot, near the bottom (see pictures) where there is a gouge that has damaged the canvas. I chose not to touch it up, because matching the paint would be difficult. There are also a handful of tiny specs of paint, in varying places, likely from someone painting something near it. most are on the back and a few on the top (see pictures)

This antique trunk or vintage chest , is larger than most. An extra large antique steamer trunk, it’s not only beautiful, but this large trunk serves very well as a storage trunk, or storage chest. It will hold more than a hope chest, or an antique cedar chest. Better than a leather trunk!
As a travel trunk or travel chest, it traveled the world. It's now ready to be your treasure chest.
This antique steamer is one of the largest old trunks, I’ve ever had in my possession, likely from the 1920’s or 1930’s
This antique chest trunk is newly refinished or refurbished in brown metallic, which is more of an iridescent ( it’s so subtle), and it was super close to the original color. The tan, buckskin color portions I believe are vellum (leather), but I’m. not certain, tacks have been buffed bright on the tan areas, and the rest of the hardware is partially buffed, to reveal brass, copper and silver tones. it appears to be plating. Metal band, and hinges still have their original finish. Great detail, in all the original hardware.
This antique chest trunk also has it’s original tan leather handles. they can’t be used, because they’re quite rotten, but they look great.
There is no key for this vintage travel trunk or travel chest, and the center hasp has been taken apart, at some point, so the lock mechanism is stuck in the lid portion, where the hasp would sit to be locked. There are also 2 small chunks of leather missing, on the back and top back, and some spots on the body see pictures. The flaws on the body could be covered with reproduction travel stickers. There is one original travel sticker on the end.

Interior, of this vintage steamer trunk’s body has been stripped and sanded and awaits your own personal touch, though it is useable as it is. You could decoupage photo copies of some old family photos, sheet music, art work anything paper. You could also stain, paint, apply contact paper, etc. I’m happy to guide you, if you need.

This black Antique Steamer Trunk has a medieval- gothic, feel. Kind of looks like something you'd find in a castle. A great addition in any room. This is definitely one of the more ornate vintage chest trunks I’ve had, the original trunk hardware is so ornate, at least in the trunk coffee table or chest coffee table group (flat top trunks).

This beautiful antique steamer trunk would make the perfect coffee table trunk. Previously an antique travel trunk, now it’s a vintage chest coffee table, a vintage flat top trunk.

This Vintage Chest or vintage Trunk definitely has a Restoration Hardware feel.

This old trunk appears to be all original , in a medium brown and black. Oak slats are natural and do have some scratches here and there.
The original leather straps still in tact as are the strap holders and handles
and tacks holding it on, are in varying shades of tan & brown. the tacks are brass
Original, leather handles one side is in broke, but could be glued (at trunk’s left. The strap on the top at Trunks left is also partially missing. Original leather strap holders are still fully intact, with the original oversized (probably brass) studs.
The center hasp is quite unusual, as most of these flat tops didn’t have that ornate center hasp and all the other ornate metal hardware. All the hasps, brackets and tacks are varying in color, some of it looks coppery, some of it looks brass, and some looks like gold tone trying to imitate brass.
No keys, for the dual hasp locks.

The interior of this Vintage Chest Trunk is all original and has 2 interior trays (one is not pictured, and is broken. it’s in descent shape without odors, there’s a very slight perfume smell, but very minimal. if left to sit open, it would likley dissipate.

A beautiful antique steamer trunk or antique chest. Also known as a monitor trunk, from the late 1800’s. This old trunk was once a travel trunk but now it's ready to be your storage chest, treasure chest or treasure trunk. These antique trunks can make a really cool coffee table trunk, or end table trunk, nestled between a pair of bucket chairs! This particular antique steamer trunk, is a nice, more durable alternative, to a leather trunk, and having a similar look, it's basically a wooden trunk, covered in tin.
These trunks also make great keepsake gifts, heirloom gifts etc. I've sold quite a few for anniversary gifts, retirement gifts, especially popular for retirement from the military gift.

This steamer trunk is refinished, or refurbished, has had the wood slats refinished, in walnut, then top coated with polyurethane. Original metal hardware has been painted black and partially buffed bright. The crocodile tin is done in browns and blacks. The remainder of the body, on this Vintage steamer trunk, is patinas of the past.
This vintage trunk has new, custom black leather handles, and 3 new hinges, there are a couple of extra holes, on the back (see picture). At some point, someone also added a generic hasp, in place of the original hasp. I’ve painted it to make it blend in better, this antique travel chest has no key, but could accommodate a padlock.

This old trunk is newly refinished, but definitely has some travel time in its past!
Body is painted in a silver metallic, with black binding, I think it’s vellum.
Oak slats are done in a dark walnut stain

All the hasps, brackets and tacks are varying in color, some of it looks brass, and some looks like gold tone trying to imitate brass and some of it resembles gunmetal.
No keys, for this vintage trunk. New, distressed, brown leather straps and buckles. new custom brown leather handles.

Look closely, there are patches that have missing canvas /fabric, a large portion on the backside, at the bottom edge. It also has some ripples in the wood underneath the canvas on trunk’s left side at bottom, indicating that it was at some point wet, causing the wood layers to separate. It does not affect the structure, especially not with the added lumber!

This authentic late 1800s antique steamer trunk (circa 1870–1880) is a large restored metal and wood travel chest with original character and historic craftsmanship. Once used for long-distance travel, this flat-top trunk now serves as a statement coffee table, heirloom storage chest, or decorative antique accent. Featuring ornate hardware, double hasps, oak slats stained deep walnut, and newly added black leather handles, this antique trunk blends functional storage with timeless architectural presence.

Measuring 37” wide x 22 1/4” deep x 24 1/4” tall, this substantial antique steamer trunk offers generous interior storage while maintaining authentic 19th-century charm. The exterior showcases a custom multi-tonal finish in layered browns, blacks, golds, and subtle metallic accents, while the original tin retains age-appropriate character including minor crinkles and dents consistent with over 140 years of history.

The interior has been stripped to bare wood and sanded smooth, creating a clean, versatile space ideal for blankets, keepsakes, heirloom storage, or interior customization. Optional staining, painting, or torching is available for a tailored finish.

This monitor trunk is from the late 1800’s likely around 1870 or 1880. Previously a vintage travel trunk or antique travel chest, now it’s ready to be your treasure chest, or chest coffee table, trunk coffee table.

This antique chest is newly refinished or refurbished. The exterior of this old trunk has a very unique finish. it’s done in multiple browns, blacks, golds and tans and some metallics.
The hardware on this antique trunk is buffed bright. Oak slats on this trunk chest are stained in a deep walnut and top coated with polyurethane. This old trunk also has new, custom black leather handles. The tin does have crinkles and dents, throughout, though I'd say it's in great shape, having likely been made the 1800's. There is a small bit of tin missing on the rear at the very bottom on the trunk’s right (see picture). it also appears to have an added padlock hasp and a repair, under the lids edge, message me and I can send you pictures, I ran out of space, it can’t be seen when lid is closed. The added hasp and repair likley were done, when it was in use.

The interior of this vintage chest has been stripped down to bare wood, and sanded. This black Antique Steamer Trunk has a medieval- gothic, feel. Kind of looks like something you'd find in a castle. A great addition in any room. This is definitely one of the more ornate vintage chest trunks I’ve had, the original trunk hardware is so ornate, at least in the trunk coffee table or chest coffee table group (flat top trunks).
A very rare piece, from the late 1800’s, these ornate flat tops are pretty hard to come by!

A spectacular piece, with exceptional hardware! Newly refinished exterior; walnut stained & polyurethane wood slats, new custom black leather handles, aged black on remainder of body. Body is covered in tin. Hasp & latches work, no key. The top and front had leather strap holders, that I replaced, I didn’t place a strap, because the original was just one that ran through the strap holders, and was not attached to the trunk itself. depending on how you’d be using this trunk, I thought the strap could get in the way. if you like a black leather strap added, and even attached, message me and we can discuss the options.

These antique trunks, have endless uses, from record album storage, to an entry way storage bench, foot of the bed storage, blanket chest. they also make a great retirement gift, anniversary gift, wedding gift, birthday gift, housewarming gift, keepsake gift or just to treat yourself to a spectacular antique decor piece!

A very rare, extra large steamer chest, tin covered antique chest, likely from the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. Not only is the tin pattern rare, the size of this antique trunk, is also super rare, see measurements below! It’s an extra large trunk or an extra large chest, the largest flat top trunk ever made! This is a refurbished antique trunk, or refinished antique trunk.

As an antique travel chest or travel trunk, it traveled the world. Now it’s an antique chest that’s ready to become your storage chest, oversized large coffee table, or treasure chest. This rare small antique steamer trunk features an unusual fully embossed tin exterior, rich walnut-stained wood slats, and ornate original hardware, giving it exceptional Victorian character in a compact size. Once used as a 19th century travel trunk, this authentic vintage chest has been professionally refinished and now works beautifully as a keepsake trunk, low coffee table trunk, sewing chest, memory box, or decorative storage chest. Its smaller proportions and intricate crosshatched tin pattern make it especially desirable among collectors and interior designers looking for authentic antique trunks with distinctive architectural presence.

This is a small vintage trunk, with a flat top, covered in embossed crosshatched tin. This one is more unusual, because it’s entirely covered in embossed tin, no smooth tin like most of them. It’s also unusual in size, this could have been a youth trunk or a salesman sample, but I’m leaning towards a youth trunk.
Entire body has been buffed bright, with the edges darkened with black.
Wood slats are stained in dark walnut and black paint for a black shabby look, and topped with polyurethane . Hardware on this vintage trunk chest antique travel trunk, has also been buffed bright. This antique steamer trunk also has new, custom, black leather handles. No key for this antique steamer trunk.
there are some pieces missing out of 3 different oak slats: on on top @trunk’s left rear, one on rear @trunk’s right rear, and on on the front top slat @ trunk’s right. I also suspect there was once a metal band, that went near the hinges, but I’m not certain.
I can add 4” steel, locking wheels to this piece to make it a better height for a coffee table, for an added charge.
