This authentic late 1800s antique steamer trunk (circa 1870–1880) is a large restored metal and wood travel chest with original character and historic craftsmanship. Once used for long-distance travel, this flat-top trunk now serves as a statement coffee table, heirloom storage chest, or decorative antique accent. Featuring ornate hardware, double hasps, oak slats stained deep walnut, and newly added black leather handles, this antique trunk blends functional storage with timeless architectural presence.
Measuring 37” wide x 22 1/4” deep x 24 1/4” tall, this substantial antique steamer trunk offers generous interior storage while maintaining authentic 19th-century charm. The exterior showcases a custom multi-tonal finish in layered browns, blacks, golds, and subtle metallic accents, while the original tin retains age-appropriate character including minor crinkles and dents consistent with over 140 years of history.
The interior has been stripped to bare wood and sanded smooth, creating a clean, versatile space ideal for blankets, keepsakes, heirloom storage, or interior customization. Optional staining, painting, or torching is available for a tailored finish.

This monitor trunk is from the late 1800’s likely around 1870 or 1880. Previously a vintage travel trunk or antique travel chest, now it’s ready to be your treasure chest, or chest coffee table, trunk coffee table.
This antique chest is newly refinished or refurbished. The exterior of this old trunk has a very unique finish. it’s done in multiple browns, blacks, golds and tans and some metallics.
The hardware on this antique trunk is buffed bright. Oak slats on this trunk chest are stained in a deep walnut and top coated with polyurethane. This old trunk also has new, custom black leather handles. The tin does have crinkles and dents, throughout, though I'd say it's in great shape, having likely been made the 1800's. There is a small bit of tin missing on the rear at the very bottom on the trunk’s right (see picture). it also appears to have an added padlock hasp and a repair, under the lids edge, message me and I can send you pictures, I ran out of space, it can’t be seen when lid is closed. The added hasp and repair likley were done, when it was in use.
The interior of this vintage chest has been stripped down to bare wood, and sanded. These vintage trunk chests make a great keepsake gift, add decoupage, of photo copies of family photos, old love letters, sheet music, family recipes, children's art, etc. it's a blank canvas! It's also useable, just the way it is.
The interior of this vintage storage trunk can also be stained, painted, or torched, by me, for an added charge.
